A Highlight of Spirit Week 2023

From March 20th to March 24th, Stanners and faculty celebrated Molloy’s annual Spirit Week! To participate in the dress-downs, as well as attend the popular basketball game at the end of the week, students and faculty alike donated money to support building a Marist school in Liberia!

Dress Downs

Each day, students dressed according to a dress-down theme, expressing themselves in various costumes, cultural ensembles, colors, and pajamas. Between “Teen Trope” day and “Anything Goes” day, everything from inflatable sharks, professional baseball players, and the Super Mario Brothers could be seen walking the halls! On Day 3 of Spirit Week, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors showed off their class-year pride on Color Day! Donning either green, pink, red, or blue, Stanners also carried around “Anything But A Backpack,” using beach totes and suitcases to carry their belongings. The dress-down on Thursday encouraged all Stanners to proudly showcase their various cultures, either wearing the colors of different flags or donning full traditional attire. Friday was a crowd-favorite, as everyone was able to come to school as comfortable as can be in their pajamas!

Activities

In addition to the various dress-down themes, Stanners participated in a wide variety of fun activities. The week consisted of club activities, a lip sync battle, and the Stanner Spirit Games! Ms. Murdocca, organizer of Spirit Week, shared, “We had some of the most amazing lip sync performances ever, and the largest event audience in years!”

The much-loved Festival of Cultures took place Thursday after school, and it was “one of the best we have ever had,” according to Ms. Murdocca! Performances ranged from traditional Greek and Austrian dances, to a rendition of the Italian National Anthem. All of Molloy’s Culture Clubs hosted a table, sharing authentic snacks, meals, and giveaways to highlight the beauty of their heritage!

The culminating event of the week was the highly anticipated Senior vs. Faculty Basketball Game, in which the seniors dominated with a score of 82 to 52! From the jump, seniors scored multiple points within the first few seconds of the game, and never once let go of their lead. The crowd cheered from the moment the game began to the moment it ended, with the volume increasing as the Sassy Seniors took center stage! Both Molloy’s Step and Dance teams celebrated their Senior Day, marking the last performance for some of the members. The game was definitely one for the books!
