The Coding School Interviews Stellar CS&E Stanners!

Earlier in March, Mr. Trent Peltz from The Coding School (TCS) visited Molloy to interview Principal Dr. Darius Penikas and four incredible Stanners: Ashlyne Costin ‘25, Shlok Dharia ‘24, Gisele Habibulla ‘25, and Gurpreet Heir ‘25! Molloy is one of six schools across the country (and the only one from New York!) to be interviewed by TCS, as we have been selected as one of their exemplary partner schools.

According to Mr. Peltz, “The interviews are a culminating showing of the importance and impact the courses have on students and teachers.” Dr. Penikas shared his agreement during his interview, saying that “STEM education is important in providing skills that can help students engage out in the real world.”

Computer Science & Engineering Chairperson Ms. Boral shares, “Molloy has been a partner school with TCS for the last four years. The school offers a range of programs focusing on skill-building and workforce development in cutting-edge technologies such as Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data. Through this collaboration, students at Molloy benefit from access to innovative educational opportunities designed to prepare them for success in the evolving digital landscape. Besides taking Quantum Computing and Intro to AI, our students can participate in TCS's summer programs such as Data Science Research at Columbia University, Quantum Computing Summer Camp, Prep for AP CSA, among others, further enriching their learning experiences and expanding their skill sets.”

During the visit, Stanners were questioned about their experience in the TCS partner course, being prompted to share what their favorite topics were, why they think the course is important, or what being an AI leader means to them. Ashlyn said she believes the course “gives students the chance to learn things that their school might not otherwise offer,” and Giselle believes it is “important for the course to be free for all because it gives students a chance to expose themselves to different aspects of computer science” even if they aren’t sure what they want to study in the future.

Ms. Boral says that she’s “thrilled that Molloy has been selected to be featured as one of the exemplary high schools in the US implementing TCS’s program.” Keep an eye out for TCS’s full interview in the upcoming weeks!
