Stellar Athletes Recognized at Annual Athletic Awards

Stellar Athletes Recognized at Annual Athletic Awards

On May 19th, Molloy hosted its annual Athletic Awards, recognizing the accomplishments of our stellar student-athletes! Family and friends gathered to celebrate the achievements of both individuals and teams throughout the 2025–2026 school year, highlighting the hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship that define Molloy Athletics.

During the event, Athletic Director Mr. Mike McCleary presented the Coaches and Team MVP Awards. The Coaches Award is selected by each coaching staff and presented to a player who, while not named MVP, is deserving of special recognition for their contributions to the team. The MVP Award is presented to the top player on each team during this school year. Other awards presented throughout the night include the Senior Scholar Athletes Awards, which recognize seniors who excelled in the classroom and on the field of play, and the Firefighter Timothy Klein ‘08 Awards, which provides tuition assistance and to rising seniors who have played their respective sport for three years and are in good academic standing. The 2026 recipients of the Firefighter Timothy Klein ‘08 Award were Marcos Lopez ‘26 and Emma Palacio ‘26! Thank you to the Klein family for sponsoring this award.

A highlight of the night is the announcement of Molloy’s new CHSAA Captain’s Club members. The CHSAA Captain’s Club was created to help keep Catholic values within high school athletics. Each school from the Brooklyn Diocese chooses two “captains” to represent their school and discuss league policies. Eileen Henning ‘26 and Colin Sweeney ‘26, last year’s captains, were thanked for their service and then asked to pass the torch to our newly appointed representatives: Madde Sepe ‘27 and Nolan Gomez ‘27!

The night came to a close with the presentation of the Jack Curran Outstanding Senior Athlete Award, which is presented to the top male and female athlete in the graduating class. The 2026 recipients of this prestigious award are Christina Kyrou ‘26 and Ayden Roman ‘26! A stand-out tennis player, Christina was named All-League for the past three years in a row. She is a three-time B/Q Champion, a three-time City Champion, and has reached the State Finals twice. She boasts a record of 12-0 in doubles and 36-5 in singles during her high school career for an overall record of 48-5. Christina is committed to playing tennis at the Stevens Institute of Technology in the fall! Captain of the Varsity Baseball team, Ayden is a two-time All-League player. He was named team MVP the past two years in a row, and led his team in hitting with a .390 batting average. He compiled 17 home runs and 68 RBIs while leading his team to the City Championship, the first for Molloy since 2002. In the fall, Ayden will be playing baseball for Manhattan University!

Congratulations to each and every one of our stellar athletes!
