WORLD LANGUAGE

The World Language Department at Archbishop Molloy High School not only teaches students how to speak a new language, but how to understand and embrace new cultures.

World Language at Molloy

All incoming freshman entering our school choose one world language to commit to for at least three years - Italian, Spanish, or French. Every student is required to take a World Language course.

Over the course of three years, students will learn how to read, write, and speak their chosen language. Basic grammar and vocabulary skills are first learned and then used to practice in-class conversation. Students that wish to continue learning their selected language have the option to take advanced courses their senior year. See course offerings below.

Acceleration

A Proficiency Test aligned to the Checkpoint A NYS LOTE Standards will be considered if a student wishes to take an accelerated language course. If your junior high school does not offer this exam, then you may take Molloy’s World Language Placement Exam. Only students who are accepted, register, and pay all fees by the stated admissions deadlines may sit for the Placement Exam. Students who are admitted to Molloy after this time or register late do not qualify for language acceleration.
