SOCIAL STUDIES

Archbishop Molloy High School's Social Studies Department seeks to provide instruction that upholds the standards and practices outlined in the New York State Framework Curriculum.

The NYS Global History Regents Exam is taken by all students at the end of their sophomore year. All students will take the US History & Government Regents Exam at the end of their junior year.

A wide variety of elective courses are available in senior year. The goal of these course offerings is two-fold: to fulfill New York State Framework curriculum requirements and to offer students an opportunity to explore academic disciplines they may wish to pursue further in college.

STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP SKILLS SUCH AS

·Gathering & using historical evidence
·Identifying the causes & effects of events

·Comparing & contrasting influential events & time periods
·Predicting possible outcomes

·Recognizing the effects geography, economics, & belief systems have on history
·Promote civic participation
