Inmersión Total Class Collaborates w/ Art Dept

Hola soy Breogán.

I’m a senior here at Molloy and this January I began working as Señor Bronsen’s Spanish 3 intern. I was excited for this unique opportunity that offers more liberty and leadership than just being a student in a more conventional classroom environment.

The Spanish 3 non honors classes are centered around creative projects and immersion. This is very much in line with Molloy’s motto “Not for school, but for life!”. Students are encouraged to communicate in the classroom in Spanish, that’s why it is called the ‘inmersión total’. The immersion aspect of the course goes beyond only interacting in Spanish, but also creating collaborative projects.

Our latest project allowed the students to create children's books in Spanish. They learned how to take charge, collaborate and use their Spanish in a creative way. Every Children’s book included many original pictures. In order to give the students more artistic inspiration, we asked, Ms. Tudor the Art teacher here at Molloy, to review the drawings.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for my studio art classes to collaborate with Señor Bronsen’s Spanish 3 students. My Art students were able to engage in artistic critique, provide feedback, and witness real world application of arts and their foreign language, Spanish. As someone who has worked in book publishing, I was impressed by their creativity. The success at collaboration, and pride they took in their work was evident in their presentations,” said Ms. Tudor.

On a personal level, my experience working as a Spanish intern has been amazingly successful. Although I was slightly nervous initially about the idea of having to give orders to those who seemed like my peers, I was made to feel at ease instantly, between the professionalism of the teacher, Señor Bronsen, and the positivity of the classroom. I feel as though I have learned a tremendous amount while working under Señor Bronsen, in terms of the leadership and organizational qualities that I have been able to acquire, as well as the project building skills. I
hope to take this experience and these lessons forward with me as they have helped to set me up for my future University endeavors. I wish all the best to the current and future Español 3 Inmersión Total classes.

Chao,

Breogán
