Pre Med Career Club Hosts Guests

The Pre Med Career Club recently invited two more guests to speak about their experiences in the medical field! On Tuesday, April 25th, Dr. Kathleen Karsten visited to speak about her career as a Registered Nurse with a PhD! The Director of Nursing at LaGuardia Community College, Dr. Karsten informed Stanners about the different paths to becoming a nurse, as well as all of the other job opportunities available to those with nursing degrees.

Answering many questions asked by members of the club, Dr. Karsten shared her love of nursing, “because everyday she learns something new.” She gave the future doctors and nurses of the club some advice, sharing, “You have to be serious and keep your grades up from the very first semester, as it can impact your entire career.” A leader of the club, Carly Meier ‘24 said of the visit, “Dr. Karsten was lovely to have in the meeting. Through her story about when she realized she wanted to be a nurse (she liked her neighbor’s uniform!), I saw that any event could lead you to pursue a certain profession, and to always look for signs that could inspire major life decisions.”

In March, alum Dr. Paul Gerardi '77 visited the club to speak about his experience as a Cardiologist and professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine! He explained the importance of asking for help, and that all doctors are open to helping each other with cases. Carly shares, "I learned that every day, medical professionals are saving lives, by chance or with a plan."

Thank you, Dr. Karsten and Dr. Gerardi, for visiting our Stanners!
