Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! Remember, we only have one Earth, and it’s our job to take care of it.

At Molloy, Stanners dedicate their breaks from school to bettering the Earth, one small act at a time. With a roster of almost ninety students, the I AM Green Club encourages the Molloy community to do its part in healing our planet.

In the past year, the I AM Green Club has organized many initiatives to promote a clean Earth. Mr. Dougherty and Mr. Esgro, along with the club, have performed Beach Cleanups in Rockaway, Queens, as well as neighborhood cleanups in Briarwood. They sent postcards to the New York State Assembly Member Carl Heastie and Senator Andrea Stewart, urging them to pass invaluable climate legislation. A number of students created Fast Fashion TikToks that were broadcasted on the morning announcements. The videos were used to educate the Molloy community on the questionable work environments of garment workers for companies that produce cheap, quick lines of clothing.

Just recently, members of I AM Green conducted research and presented on organizations that spend time helping the planet. Although not mandatory, Stanners worked hard to educate themselves and others on what could be done to live more sustainably!

Perhaps one of the greatest reminders of our responsibility to love and care for our planet is the young Coral Bark Japanese Maple tree planted on Molloy’s front lawn. A gift from the Marist community, the tree symbolizes one small action that can be done to show the Earth we care.

Molloy is dedicated to supporting our one and only home, so let us use our time to appreciate and help the single planet we have!
