Memorial Day was celebrated on Monday and school was closed. Students arrived on Tuesday and were met with the news that Dr. Patrick Murphy had passed away and the school would be closed for his funeral Mass and Memorial on Wednesday. In all, it was a very short week.
That is not to say that there was not a good deal going on. To the contrary, there was a great deal happening in the school.

Congratulations Alyson Cadera ’08 — the Student Poet Laureate of Queens!
One of the more interesting awards and a first time award for a student at Molloy was the Fresh Meadow’s Poets organization award naming Alyson Cadera the Student Poet Laureate of Queens. Her poems will be published on line, and we hope to include them in an upcoming edition of the Stanner E-News! Alyson stopped by to see Mr. Sherry after the academic awards / graduation practice last week.

The award consists of a commemorative coin with St. Champagnat’s image embedded in a Plexiglas holder. It is a reminder to those who have served others these four years to continue their selfless service to others.
The blessing of the graduates took place during the Mass led by representatives of the Parents, Teaching Staff and Friends of the graduates.
The final blessing was a charge for all of us to keep in mind as Stanners –
Spirit of God, bless these graduates with perseverance,
May they follow their own special callings.
Be with them wherever they go.
Give them wisdom to know what is right and courage to do what is right.
Amen.
The year is over for the overwhelming majority of Stanner Athletes. It was a good year and the final wrap-up will be presented in the upcoming edition of the Stanner News magazine. Keep an eye out for this edition — it will prove to be a genuine eye-opener when it comes to our athletic prowess here at Molloy.
We welcome our 357 newest Stanners to the Alumni Association this weekend as they walk the line on Saturday and come back for the Senior Breakfast on Monday. Rehearsals are complete and the next steps are amazing for these young graduates.
Gary Butera ’78 — according to Mr. Diorio, “’78 was one of the best classes ever”. Gary is opening his newest restaurant — Butera’s located at 3860 Sunrise Highway in Seaford. It is about two blocks past the Seaford — Oyster Bay Expressway eastbound exit. It will be opening June 3rd, and you can count on Mr. Diorio to be there for the grand opening… a food critic from way back, John D. told us that he has never had a bad meal there and the Mussels Marinara are to die for… this location has been moved from the Massapequa location which is now closed. Let’s support Stanners in business for themselves. Gary is a restaurateur with three locations on LI.
