It’s Tee Time on Long Island!

Ten days and counting to Monday, May 5th. There are a few corporate foursomes available for Stanner business owners and willing sponsors in morning session at the Plandome Country Club. The excitement is building as the hole in one competition for the Porsche or the Mercedes-Benz will be fierce. For those who do not measure up there is always the “Vice Hole” for consolation. Raffle ticket sales have been brisk and the prizes are fantastic this year. Three lucky winners and their guest will be spending some quality time in very nice locations this year.
The Stanner Classic serves as one of the best reunion opportunities each year. It is a time for classmates and business people to meet and greet in an idyllic setting. As the final countdown begins set aside the day for sun and relaxation — you deserve it. Call Maria Ford at 718-943-3148 or e-mail her at mford@molloyhs.org to make your reservations… you can also go sign up online immediately.
Sunday brought out talent and some wonderful desserts. Over 500 people attended this year’s International Day, a day that we set aside to celebrate the diversity that we share at Molloy. The food theme this year was “Desserts”, and there were very few left at the end of the day.

Kathy Loughran reported that “there were more performances this year — In addition to cultural dances, there were singing and instrumental music acts. We devoted two hours to performances with a 30 minute intermission for desserts. The performances were diverse and the students were amazingly talented. Considering the Popes visit and Passover being held at the same time — It was a Wonderful International Day!”
Some alumni were seen checking out the dessert tables and watching the performances. It is always a great day at Molloy when Stanners return home to visit and connect with the students. There were also many parents in attendance as always.
Anne Lonergan reported on “her boy’s” performance and her pride was boundless. This season’s competition has been a bit tough on our step teams but they took center stage and won the day at Nassau Community College this weekend. The “First Ladies” step team will be competing at Christ the King this Saturday.

Varsity Softball — Playing for first place today… Boys Baseball — it seems to be a “building year” for the team … Boys Tennis — 4-0 … Varsity handball 3-2 and our First Place Golf team is 7-0!
We will have a complete report on the performance of our Stanner Athletes in Pennsylvania next week in the Stanner E-News.
The Academic Awards ceremony was held on Thursday night and the academic prowess of our students was clear to everyone in attendance. Special awards were given to a number of students for specific academic excellence.

The school held a memorial Mass in memory of Katy Grogan on Monday morning. The choir was wonderful and the remembrances were deeply personal and healing. As this school year closes let us continue to remember to pray for each other, and especially for those Stanners who have lost a loved one this past year. Every week it seems we learn of the loss of another family member or Stanner. The power of prayer was evident this week at the Mass, and our students let their faith lead them to a deeper understanding of this part of life.

This Sunday we will host the annual St. Ann’s Communion Breakfast at St. Jean Baptiste church in Manhattan. We are expecting more than 60 Stanners from St. Ann’s and are looking forward to a great reunion event.
Mr. Sherry received the following message from Robert Kowalski ’91 this week. Please remember Cassandra as an intention in your prayers this week. Cassandra is another small miracle who needs our prayers.
Hello John,
Laura and I welcomed Cassandra Rose Kowalski to the world on Saturday, March 29th, at 1:15 PM, right here in Las Vegas. She was born 4 pounds and 3 ounces, and came about 8 weeks early. The surgeon is requiring her to stay at Valley Hospital until late June to be safe. She is fine, but we are praying for her to come home from the Hospital sooner, of course. My wife and I couldn’t be prouder of her. I thank you for remembering us. It’s acts like this that reminds me of what it means to be a Stanner.

Dick Brennan ’79 is affiliated with Fox News as a weekend anchor. Keep an eye out for him as you channel surf this weekend. He began his career on the other side of the camera. Dick was a producer in New York at WWOR/Ch. 9 and WNBC-TV/Newschannel 4. He later joined Ch. 9 as a reporter, before moving to Fox 5. Stanners who attended the Mass at Yankee Stadium saw Dick working his craft for Fox News at that event.
Mike Friend from the class of ’68 stopped by with a copy of his book Kitchen Spanish. Co-authored with his classmate, TJ Loughran it has just been released in a revised edition. Since its original publication it has been used by restaurateurs across America. The book is a great example of Stanners seeing a niche and filling it. The book is considered a “must have” in the restaurant world. Congrats to Mike and Tom on the re-release of this classic. For more information, go to www.kitchenspanish.com.
A Call to Action
We need class committee volunteers! Listed below are Stanners who have already agreed to help solicit their classmates in May and June. We thank them for their dedication, but THEY NEED YOUR HELP! Don’t let your class be left behind. Please contact Steve Kimmons, the Executive Director of Advancement, skimmons@molloyhs.org , 718-943-3186 to volunteer!
Care Deeply, Give freely,
Think kindly, Act gently,
And be at peace with the world.
