The alumni office is once again in golf mode… As the sign says, it’s All Golf – All the Time. We have prepared an outstanding day for our corporate sponsors and alumni. As you know, this is the second largest reunion of Stanners held each year. So, if you haven’t signed up, get on line and make it happen.

Raffle Ticket sales have been great due to the phenomenal prizes offered. They include: a seven day Caribbean Cruise, Two Super Bowl Tickets with airfare and hotel included, and four days and three nights in Las Vegas with airfare included (you must provide your own gambling funds).

This year’s addition of the North Hills Country Club has generated a sell-out situation at that course. There are still a few openings at Plandome Country Club. The day is shaping up to be a stellar Stanner event. Clean your clubs as there are TWO hole in one options including a Porsche’ and a Mercedes Benz. Leave it to Maria Ford to do the shopping and you will never be disappointed.

The committee has approved the final design of the John Gibbons Memorial Trophy donated by Tom Bradley. It will be a fitting tribute to John’s commitment to Molloy. Remember that you must have a Stanner in your foursome in order to be eligible to win this trophy.

Auction prizes are outstanding this year and include; a week in Mt. Snow Vermont in a three bedroom condo, a weekend in Woodloch Pines in Pennsylvania, a weekend in the Catskills, four NY Giants tickets, an autographed NY Giants Helmet signed by Eli Manning and a few other surprises.

There will be a variety of contests throughout the day… some are free and for some you will have to let the moths out of your wallet. We have great door prizes and everyone gets a goodie bag with a shirt, hat and golf balls. See you there!

There will be 8 men and women from Molloy competing in the Penn Relays this weekend. Tennis is 2-0 and in First Place. Softball is 4 – 1 and in Second Place. The Arts at Molloy

Guys and Dolls was a four night sell-out!

Kevin Schwab, our Stanner director, his student cast and staff did an amazing job. Having watched the show in rehearsals I was confident that it would be a winner. Each member of the cast brought out talent you don’t usually see in a High School production. There is only one word left to say now that the curtain has gone down on this performance… Bravo!

Academics

Sister Elizabeth is preparing for the Academic Awards Ceremony night scheduled for April 24th. Students are anxiously awaiting the night.

Most of the seniors have their college placements by now, and you can see evidence of the transition all around the school. Some college logo wear is prevalent as each senior finds their next academic home. Mr. Jennings commented that the age of the internet has changed the college application process. The on-line registration process has created a wave of applicants in key schools which has slowed down the acceptance process and created a larger than normal wait-list. We have a strong senior class this year and they are going on to great colleges and universities.

From the President’s Office

Work on the Chemistry Lab remodeling project is in final stages. Look for some exciting changes. Brother Roy, Mike DeMarco and the Science Department have been working for months developing plans and designing the Chemistry Lab of the future. The fall will bring a new level of sophistication to our Science program at Molloy.

Career Day was a great success. A total of 40 alumni and professional friends of Molloy gave three 30 minute reviews of their professions to our juniors and seniors. The program continues to evolve each year due to input from our alumni, students and faculty. It is a great program and we will continue to improve it and add elements to broaden its reach. We are looking for more alumni to become involved and seek a wider choice of occupations. If you have an interest in supporting this annual event with your time, please send a note to Mr. Sherry at president@molloyhs.org.

The Chemistry Lab remodel has certain unintended consequences for our IT program at Molloy. The Chemistry Lab will take over the space where the computer lab was in the DeChiaro Center. The Murphy Library will become the Murphy Research Center with the addition of 25 new laptop stations for student and faculty use. In addition to this, 100% of the building will be wireless, and every faculty member will have a personal laptop. When teachers return next year, every classroom will have a SmartBoard©. Combined with the laptops for each teacher we anticipate greater use of technology in all aspects of our academic programming. This would not have happened without Alumni support. It will cost approximately $300,000 for IT upgrades this year alone. Our Capital Campaign, annual fund and other donations make these upgrades possible.

Stanners for Life!

The Parents Phase of the Stanners for Life Campaign kicked off in style on Wednesday, April 16 at a Wine and Cheese Reception hosted by the Parents Committee.

Led by Tom Bradley ‘74 (who also serves as the chair of the Stanners for Life Campaign) and Fran DeLuca, the Committee consists of Doreen & Stavros Aloizos, Monique Ambrose, MaryEllen & Bob ‘81 Dittus, Jennifer Hernandez, Laura & Victor Maldonado, Tanuja Raghoo, Lily Sadik, Fran Stango, Felicia & Peter Vairo, Carol & George Woods, and Kevin Wooley. First organized in November 2007, the Committee has been planning this event and the component outreach for five months, and hopes to wrap up parent solicitation and the Parents Phase of the Campaign by the end of June.

Close to 230 parents attended the reception, and were treated to an hour of refreshments and conversation, grouped by class. They were then asked to come to the Jack Curran Gym, where President John Sherry ‘61 introduced the components of the Stanners for Life Campaign, highlighting the immediate and long-term impact it will have on the school. Tom Bradley and Fran DeLuca each took a turn at the microphone, focusing on their own unique connections to Molloy and giving their heartfelt endorsement to the Campaign.

The highlight of the evening was a raffle for free tuition for a year. The obviously appreciative holder of the winning ticket was Jack Warren, whose daughter Jessica is a freshman, and the oldest of five children. We can’t think of a better way to end the evening!

Throughout the evening, the Parents Committee could be seen everywhere, from staffing the registration table to greeting guests at both reception venues, to engaging parents in conversation before, during, and after the presentation.

They truly made this an event to remember!
