This past Saturday night the Hall of Fame exhibit wall was dedicated. Located in the hallway leading from the President’s Office to the Marsloe Gymnasium, this wall exhibit contains portraits of all 108 members of the Stanner Hall of Fame along with a new, computer touch screen display which lists the names, portraits and biographies of the members.
The honorees for this year are; Brother James Maher, Brother Roy George, Mr. John Diorio, Ms. Mary Pat Gannon and Mr. John Gibbons. We anticipate a capacity crowd in the Curran Gymnasium to celebrate this 50th Anniversary Year of the Marist Educator group of inductees. The Master of Ceremonies for this evening was Mr. Tom Westman ’82, a member of the Stanner Hall of Fame.
Coach McCleary reports that all spring sports are revving up and he has especially high hopes for the Girls Varsity Softball Team, the Golf Team and the Boys Outdoor Track and Field Team. These are all Defending City Championship teams and they appear strong at this point in the season.
The Step Teams are back into their competition mode after the break. The Boy’s team will compete twice this spring on April 12th at Dewitt Clinton and again in the Freeport Pride Competition on April 19th. The First Ladies will compete in the CHSAA competition on April 26th. We wish them well as they continue to develop this strong tradition at Archbishop Molloy High School.
This is an especially anxious time for the seniors at Molloy. College acceptances come in every day. Many of our students received early acceptance notices from their first pick schools, and each day there are new smiles on seniors as they compare notes with their friends and classmates. We wish them well as they take their first “next steps” out the door and into a brave new world.

The 50th Anniversary Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral — The entire Stanner community is invited to attend this cornerstone event in our spiritual life as a Marist, Catholic High School. We will be arriving in the city and walking into the Cathedral as our pipe band announces to the City of New York that the “Stanners of St. Ann’s Academy and Archbishop Molloy High School” have returned to celebrate our heritage and our 50th Anniversary. Mass begins at 10:30 sharp… if you are working in the city and can arrange for a couple of hours off to come together as one community, please stop in. If you cannot be there, please remember us in your prayers that day.
Senior encounters are under way. Retreats are happening throughout the spring and the school is all geared up for their express subway ride from Van Wyck / Briarwood Station to Rockefeller Center Station next Wednesday.

There are many requests that come into this office for distribution to our alumni for their support. We try to be careful when we post them on our site for many reasons. This week we received a request on behalf of the daughter of Anthony and Melissa Manno. Anthony is from the class of ’88. Mackenzie, was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Auto-Immune Hepatitis. There is no known cause or cure for this disease. She is being treated and from the pictures seems to be a happy 6 year-old.
As with many diseases, the research required is massive. They have enlisted the aid of family and friends to join Team Mackenzie as part of the American Liver Foundation Greater New York. You can log on to register to walk or make a donation in support of Team Mackenzie. In their note, they thanked all of their friends for their support and their Prayers! Let us keep this Stanners family in our prayers. I will ask that we add her name to the prayers offered up at the 50th Anniversary Mass on April 9th at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Phonathon Results - We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our Annual Fund Phonathon callers and, more importantly, those of you who responded to those calls with a gift. During our 8 nights of calling, we had 34 callers make 4,036 individual contacts (not counting wrong numbers.) From those calls came 517 pledges for a total of $56,190! We’re also pleased to note the number of online gifts we have received, as a result of those phone calls and the Annual Fund letter. If you haven’t done so already, please help us “Bridge the Gap” between tuition and the real cost of a Molloy education.

No less important is our $8 Million Stanners for Life Campaign. We’re happy to report that close to $6 Million has been raised to date! While the Annual Fund takes care of current expenses, the Campaign allows us to plan for future endowment and capital needs. In short, the difference between the two funds is similar to the difference between a checking account and a savings account. Campaign letters are being sent in three waves. All current parents and a third of our graduating classes received their letters last month, and volunteers are busily making contact to encourage their participation. The second third of our alumni will receive their letters in early May, and the final group in late June. This will allow us to recruit volunteers to help rally their classes to participate. If you would like to become involved, please contact our Executive Director of Advancement, Steve Kimmons at 718-943-3186 or skimmons@molloyhs.org .
Parents Reception Parents are reminded about the Stanners for Life Campaign Reception, scheduled for Wednesday, April 16 at 7 pm. This is your opportunity to meet other parents from your child’s class, to learn about the Campaign, and to participate in a raffle for FREE TUITION for the coming year. (Note: If the parents of a senior win, they will be reimbursed for the tuition they paid for this year.) Each family will receive two raffle tickets at the event, and must be present at the drawing in order to win. Visit Molloy’s website to register for this first-time event!
We received the notice in the Alumni Office this week that Joseph Haberkern, ‘67 passed on July 12, 2000. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
If you receive a notification of the passing of any Stanner, please notify the Alumni office via the website or by phone: 718-943-3151.
From time to time we add a Special Edition to the Stanner E-News… we will post pictures of the Hall of Fame event in a brief edition of the E-News on Tuesday next week.
We will issue a Special Edition about the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Mass on Thursday with photographs and a brief editorial review of the activities of the “Day the Stanners returned to Manhattan”.
While we’re on the subject of giving and registering on-line, we have discovered that some of you (in particular, those of you who use aol) are having trouble accessing the system. If you’ve run into this problem, use Internet Explorer instead of aol, and you should have no problem giving or registering on-line! To access Internet Explorer, click the “start” button on your computer and look for the blue “e” Internet Explorer icon.
