Coach Dom Cecala, and his sidekick, Coach Bill Niklaus are proud to announce that the Girls Basketball teams took their respective Brooklyn-Queens championships this past weekend. The JV defeated the team from St. Francis Prep, and the Varsity defeated the team from Christ the King… holder of the trophy for the past twenty-three years…. SWEET!
The JV played St. Villa for the City Championship on Tuesday, and won the City Championship. The Varsity has more work ahead for them. They will play the winner of St. Michael’s or St. John the Baptist at Hofstra at 5 PM on Saturday for the Catholic State Championship. We hope that they will go on for the Federation State Championship.
Aside from being “speechless” Dom and Bill are very proud of the way the girl’s teams have handled this season. With four graduating seniors on the Varsity, Dom is looking to the existing bench to fill in the starting ranks next year.
Molloy Hockey takes Varsity Championship – Jim Sheldon stopped in to share the news about our co-ed hockey team and their victory on Tuesday night. The team performed well in spite of playing with “just enough” players to form a team some nights. And might I say, the cup looks “marvelous”.
Softball and Baseball Scrimmages start next week! Ah, yes, the grass it starting to grow and the threats of snow are few and far between…. Its time to “Play Ball!”. The spring schedule is posted and we welcome all alumni to come back for a few home games. Stop by the Alumni Office and spend some time visiting old friends and seeing what’s new at Molloy.
Molloy Students Participate in American Heart Association Fundraisers

During the month of February, the students at Archbishop Molloy High School donated their time, talent and treasure in service to others. Campus Ministries and the National Honor Society combined efforts in a two-part fundraiser focused on Valentines Day. The school permitted “Dress Down Privileges” for each student contributing $1.00 to the American Heart Association. In addition, the Campus Ministries sponsored a Valentine’s Day Card and lollipop fundraiser that week.
In all, the students raised $3,700.00 which was donated in the fight to find cures and treatments for heart disease and toward education projects. Mrs. Betsy Shurack stopped by the school to receive the donation and to learn more about the students and programs at Archbishop Molloy High School.

We welcomed the new class of registrants to Molloy this past weekend. In all, more than 377 incoming freshmen came in to be registered leaving a few slots for those on the waiting list. The tradition continues.
Mr. DeMarco, Chairman of the Science Department, stopped by to announce the launch of a new, three-year offering in the area of Science Research and Competition. This course will prepare students for Scientific Competitions at the highest levels. In order to remain competitive in our market we innovate within existing courses and initiate new courses on a regular basis.
Guys and Dolls rehearsals are under way and they are sounding pretty strong. I peeked in on the rehearsals again this week and by the time they hit the boards, they will be ready for Broadway! More to come in future weeks about supporting the Arts at Molloy.

The Class of 1981 has begun to organize in support of the Stanners for Life Campaign. Bob Dittus, Richard Karsten, Mike Brady and George Lukasiewicz worked on the Stanners for Life campaign Monday night. It was interesting to hear them divide up the lists and figure out who was going to call who. It was even funnier to listen to the stories about their time at Molloy.

This week the Juniors received their rings in the “Ring Ceremony”. Brother Roy pointed out that on each ring is our crest with the key elements – The beehive for Academics, the lion for Athletics and the M – signifying our Marist heritage and devotion to Our Lady. He pointed out that we should wear our rings proudly as Stanners which represents our motto: Non Scholae Sed Vitae!
Class of 1939 – Lt. Col. Wittlinger reported in from his home in Nebraska that all is well with him and his best friend cat, Sylvester. After going to Manhattan college he entered the service and worked his way up the ranks – first in the NY National Guard and then in the regular Army. He saw duty in the Battle of the Bulge, Korea and Vietnam. He served with an engineering division and worked with Munitions for a good part of his career. He now resides in Blair, Nebraska. His favorite memory from St. Ann’s was as the basketball team manager the Power Memorial team timekeeper let the clock run over and this enabled PM to win the game… He and Brother Ignatius appealed the decision and lost the appeal… he really appreciated all the Marist Brothers did for him and his family.
Class of 1993 - Father Joseph Franco stopped in to hear confessions this Lenten season. He will concelebrate the 50th Anniversary Mass with Father Frank Shannon. He shared a few stories of his time here at Molloy, and was excited to learn about all that is going on here. He is looking forward to concelebrating Mass with fellow Stanner Priests on April 9th.
In addition, Monsignor McGuirl and Father Joseph Davanzo will also concelebrate the mass.
Class of 2002 - Ozzie Egas and his wife are pleased to announce the birth of their second child, Christopher Paul on 2/21/08. Mom and baby and Chris’ other sibling are all doing fine. Ozzie also reported that he had a great time at his fifth reunion.
Class of 2007 – Anthony Tufano stopped in this afternoon from Penn State. (Not to be confused with State Penn) He is glad to be home for a brief break and wanted to spend some time with his friends at Molloy. He shared with me his Life Lessons sheet from Mr. Gambino’s class – which he did have in his wallet. We wish him well in his pursuit of a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
Class of 1955 – William Mills passed away in January. His wife called in to let us know and ask that we remember him and his family in our prayers. William attended NY Law School and practiced Real Estate law in the NY area.
Class of 1948 - Mr. Joseph Peri passed away this week. Please keep his family in your prayers.
